Let’s face it—the excitement for any kid going to camp for the first time never revolves around packing. Most kids, I’ve found, just want to be outside, be with their friends, and learn new things. But to do that takes just a little preparation. And we know that as a parent you've got a million other things to do, so we’ve boiled down the basics for you here, from the usual 10 essentials to our top five ingredients for the recipe of a great camp day. So, you’ve heard about Avid4 Adventure and are thinking of signing your child up for the program. Yet, like any good parent, you want to do your homework first. When you visit the Avid4 website, the first thing you see are smiling children outdoors. They are clearly having fun and doing adventurous things. However, is that really what camp is like? Actually, it’s more! If you’re considering sending your child to camp, here's what a day in the life of your child at Avid4 day camp would look like.

Before we begin, Cassidy Morris has been working with Avid4 Adventure since 2018 where she started as a day camp instructor working with kids ages 3 - 13. She has since worked as the Operations Supervisor in Denver, helped with online programs and regularly contributes to our blog. We encourage you to read this letter from Cassidy with your child and use this time as an opportunity to check in with them to see how they are doing.

We say this a lot—our staff are truly special. At most other summer camps, there are not many requirements for prospective candidates and staff are typically between the ages of 16-18. Standard qualifications usually include having prior experience with kids, being able to lead a group of kids, and implement planned curriculum and activities.

I don’t know about you, but this year I’ve found myself spending mindless hours playing on my phone with no end-game. Just mindlessly browsing when I could be productive. Sound familiar? With our minds constantly drawn to the glaring screens of our mobile devices, it's important that we focus at least some of our time off of social media and other superfluous apps and focus on ways to get outdoors.
