Molly Small

Molly grew up in Pennsylvania exploring the woods and creeks around her home. She quickly fell in love with being outdoors, as well as skiing after a few icy trips to the Poconos. When it was time to go to college, there was an obvious choice in her head: University of Colorado, Boulder. Though she had never been to Colorado before, nor even passed the great Mississippi river, she had a feeling Colorado was the one. Keen on taking risks, she packed up her bags and never looked back. While in college, Molly spent many days hiking, skiing and exploring all that Boulder has to offer. She was a ski instructor at Breckenridge Ski Resort for three years and spent three years after as a multi-sport instructor here at Avid. Not much has changed today for Molly. She spends her free time back country skiing, trail running, mountain biking and stand up paddle boarding with her dog. She can also be found nestled in with a good book or writing blogs for Avid or her travel blog.

Young, eager, and experienced, or so we thought, myself and two friends, Mike and Carl, started to put plans in motion for a winter ascent of the tallest mountain in the contiguous U.S., Mount Whitney. Standing at 14,505’, the mountaineering route up the face of the bewitching Whitney seemed to be the perfect trip to test our skills from a NOLS trip the previous summer.
