On the morning of November 3rd, 2020, Mindy Yeager, Staffing Director at Avid4 Adventure sat at her desk in her home office in the middle of an important Zoom call with CEO, Paul Dreyer. He was about to break the wonderful news when Mindy's youngest son burst into her office. He needed help with an assignment from his online schooling. The CEO, knowing her son by name, kindly waved, said hello, and asked how school was going. Perhaps an awkward incident elsewhere, but not at Avid4 Adventure.

We say this a lot—our staff are truly special. At most other summer camps, there are not many requirements for prospective candidates and staff are typically between the ages of 16-18. Standard qualifications usually include having prior experience with kids, being able to lead a group of kids, and implement planned curriculum and activities.

Let’s be honest: headlines these days are often less than uplifting. Finding hopeful news articles can feel like an insurmountable chore. But wait! Avid4 brings you this refreshing news update: After off-setting 100% of their carbon emissions from camp vans in 2019, Avid4 Adventure is committed to taking even greater steps toward total carbon neutrality in the future! Avid4 will be offsetting 100% of their carbon emissions in 2020.

As we get closer to summer, staff are locking in their positions for the coming summer camp season! I recently accepted my position as a camp director, and I can’t help but reflect on my first season as a day camp instructor. For me, it was a summer of new beginnings, growth, and a catalyst for launching my career. Here are three takeaways I have from my first season with Avid4 Adventure:

Every year, Avid4 Adventure awards a few lucky seasonal staff members with the trip of a lifetime. Winners are granted a plane ticket to fly anywhere in the world plus a $500 stipend to spend when they arrive. To enter, staff must submit a video submission describing their dream adventure and how they plan to live by Avid4 Adventure's core values during the trip.
